Vintage Persian Tribal Gashgai Kilim, Origin: Persia, Circa: 1920’s – Here is a fetching vintage rug – an antique tribal design Persian Gashgai rug, woven in Persia in a traditional, tribal style. The bright colors and straightforward layout, however, are reminiscent of modern aesthetic preferences, which emphasize deconstruction and minimalism. The simple arrangement featured in this exciting composition consists of a unique border and field dynamic, though it is articulated in a distinct manner. Horizontally at the topmost and bottom most portions of the rug run a series of brightly colored bars of alternating thickness. Greens, reds, whites, and blues are all present, broken up occasionally by stripes of the soft brown tones that make up the field. The vertical borders are dramatically different, consisting instead of a series of long, thin triangular shapes, each colored with two tones and pointing inward, toward the center. Dramatically thin lines stretch from the tips of these triangles further outward into the field, directing the eyes toward the center and infusing the rug with even more energy. A traditional composition that is nevertheless decidedly modern, this vintage Persian flat weave kilim area rug is a delightful work.
