This late 19th century Sultanabad carpet is quite unique in its coloration and design. The floral based border pattern creates a fascinating juxtaposition against the more tribal and casual design in the field. This is a unique composition that we don’t come across often. This leads us to believe that the rug must have been a custom ordered piece by an individual who wanted to incorporate a border design that he / she must likely saw in a different rug.
