Antique Persian Bidjar Rug, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa date: 1913 – Bidjar rugs are among the more distinctive antique rug styles. Noted for being the stiffest of all antique Persian carpets, Bidjar rugs are very heavy relative to their size, and, in general, are very thick and durable. This particular example certainly speaks to this characteristic. In addition to its traditional heavy size, this Bidjar is characterized by an allover design of abstract geometric figures against a dark blue background. These traditional, tribal elements of design frequently occur in Bidjar rugs, and are widely sought after. An intriguing border without a uniform size (it is narrower on the top and the bottom than on either side) gives this antique Bidjar rug an interesting energy, drawing the observer further and further in. The traditional composition and structure of this fetching antique Persian rug make it an especially desirable example.
