Antique Turkish Rugs — Tribal Antique Turkish Kirshehir Runner Rug, Circa: late nineteenth century – This striking tribal antique Turkish Kirshehir runner rug has a field made up of border patterns in parallel stripes in rich red and yellow tones. While those set against the red ground are classic Turkish designs in geometric style, the central stripe and the the outer ones on yellow ground are surprisingly realistic sprays of flowers, recalling Armenian Karabagh and Bessarabian carpets. A thin, understated border subtly encloses the entire composition, so as not to compete with the border designs of the field. The rows of little shield-like lappets at each short end are another classic Turkish touch that nicely offsets the large-scale design effects of the field.
