Amazing Antique Persian Serab Rug, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa date: 1880 – This intriguing and tribal antique Persian Serab rug design includes a central diamond shaped design. Above, below and surrounding the diamond shape are abstract figurative designs that resemble stylized animals, cypress trees and / or people. The serrated bordering edges of the diamond lend dynamic volume to the overall design. The darker central motif rests on a light neutral toned central field with small natural adornments. The alternating dark and light of the different designs and areas, give this rug depth, character and strong visual appeal.
Back in the day, in the village of Serab, in Northwestern Persia, skilled Persian rug weavers create a captivating Persian rugs that were mostly woven using camel hair. The martials for these camel hair rugs were sourced locally locality, and were used to produce mostly long, slender hallway runner rugs. Over the years and as the village of Serab grew, they weavers were able to create larger size area rugs as well.
Because Serab is in a remote location, the village rug weavers have formed their own design patterns without any or with very little influence from the outside commercial world. The only influence of note has been weavers from other nearby communities and nomads taking a short break from their endless travels.
The long rectangular antique Serab runner carpets were originally produced for the Persian domestic market. Yet some larger room-size rugs were also designed and woven as needed and only if the rug was custom ordered. The antique rugs from Serab are known for their durability and resilience. Also, the undyed camel hair colors and tonalities tend remain very true over time.
