Antique Caucasian Kazak Rug, Caucasus – This dazzling antique Caucasian Kazak carpet showcases a marvelous triple medallion that displays searing lines, strong colors and clear rectilinear decorations rendered in a stunning pairing of jewel-tone blue-greens and fiery vermillion reds. The spectacularly colored field is bedazzled by a tower of rare pillar-shaped stepped-lozenge variants. These central figures are set over a sumptuous blue background that has an oceanic abrash. Angular S-hooks, decorative lozenge figures and a pair of directional niches decorate this nuanced surface. Beautifully executed checkers and pin-dot outlines highlight the main decorative features and lead the eye to the coordinating quincunx figures that line the eagle’s beak inner borders and edges of the field. Zigzagging split borders with S-hook ornaments conclude the lavish composition while focusing on the prized blue-ground, which is paired with clear reds and crisp white accents.
