Woven in Tabriz, this extraordinary antique room-sized Persian rug features an impressively detailed allover Mahi pattern, which is a local and regional specialty.

Antique Persian Tabriz Rug, Origin: Persia, Circa: 1900 – This arresting antique Tabriz carpet showcases a superlative allover Herati or Mahi pattern named after the characteristic fish-shaped leaves that flank each repeating block. The robust walnut-tone field is nearly obscured by the tightly spaced, richly detailed motifs, which seamlessly fit together to create an unending repeating pattern on this striking Persian rug. Dark walnut browns, soft papyrus accents and sandy mid-tones emphasize the detail-rich motifs and hairline accents that give the understated earth-tone designs a strong, highly decorative presence. Impressively detailed botanical decorations are tempered by the handsome earth-tone colors. The lavish tone-on-tone palette and superfluous details continue through the majestic turtle-and-vine-scroll borders and heavily patterned strapwork guard bands. Reciprocating turtle motifs flanked by pendulous Herati leaves and small-scale rosettes fill the superb main borders, which use the same versatile and elegant earth-tones.
