Antique Persian Malayer Rug, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: 1920 -A central black diamond edged with jagged white strips dominates this antique Persian rug. An angular tribal pattern is created within the stark shape, touched with bits of dark orange and white. Black stitches outline white and orange geometric shapes that crowd the area around the center medallion. Abstract flowers on this Malayer made with straight lines, connected by narrow stems at regular angles, make a maze-like design against the cream backdrop. The corners of the rectangular field feature knotwork patterning, stark in the light field. A trio of borders anchors the whole, the widest showcasing brown and white blossoms over a pale, icy blue.
