Antique Sarouk Rug, Persia, Late 19th Century – This unique antique rug from Sarouk features an exceptional double medallion incorporating adjoined pendants and radiant rosettes framed by flame-like palmettes. Detailed Herati motifs woven in a combination of elegant colors offset the creamy white medallion and background. Colorful accents woven in clear Persian blue and a chic combination of cocoa brown and celadon contrast the warm cerise field. Narrow borders featuring barber pole stripes often seen in weavings from the Caucasus are offset by main borders decorated with reciprocating floral motifs that enclose the field. This exceptional rug features an elegant combination of traditional Persian designs rather than patterns created to market to the West.
