Antique Portuguese Rugs — Antique Alpujarra Rug, Portugal, late nineteenth century This charming little antique Portuguese Alpujarra rug has a lattice design derived from Dagestan or Kuba Caucasian carpets. Small fleurons in green and red fill the diamond spaces created by the rich green lattice against a saffron yellow ground. Borders of tiny diamonds, zigzags, and reciprocal trefoils enclose the field, echoing its coloration. An outer end finish of multi-colored fringe runs all around the small size green and pink colored antique Portuguese Alpujarra rug in the distinctive Alpujarra fashion.
