Vintage Swedish Kilim, Origin: Sweden, Circa: Mid-Twentieth Century – Here is a compelling vintage carpet – a vintage Swedish kilim that was woven in Sweden during the middle years of the twentieth century. Borderless and riddled with intriguing square crosses throughout, this vintage Swedish kilim represents both a minimalist as well as a geometric approach to design. There are in fact twenty-five total square crosses that appear in this vintage carpet, arranged in five horizontal rows of five. These are spaced in such a way that there are two rows close to one another at the top and at the bottom, while a fifth row is set apart, running across the center of the piece. Each of these crosses have a series of short, blue horizontal lines at their center – a color that is also found in a series of vertically formed blue rectangles that run down the carpet on either side. Orange squares and reddish rectangles appear in a similar fashion, albeit solely between the top and bottom rows. In the center stand an orange cross, which is also the color of the crosses at each center point of the top and bottom rows. The entire carpet boasts a high quality and attention to detail that makes it a truly remarkable example.
