Fine Weave Floral Design Antique Persian 19th Century Kashan Area Rug, Persia, Late 19th Century – Woven with a minimalist composition, this antique Persian rug features an inset octofoil medallion decorated with floral motifs and defined by line-based contours. Open arabesques with branching vine scrolls decorate the medallion and field of this elegant antique rug from Kashan. Outlined lotus blossoms and grand palmettes with poly chromatic petals decorate the meandering vine scrolls. Spiraling S-hooks demarcate the edge of the spandrels that are decorated with a continuation of the same subtly colored arabesque. Delicate borders featuring elaborate rosettes surrounded by sinuous vine scrolls complement the meandering style and stately sienna oxidized Persian blue and chestnut brown color scheme that allows an ample amount of the stark ivory field to show through. Narrow floral guard bands and minute crenellated fence patterns complete the traditional visage of this classic antique Persian rug woven in Kashan circa 1880.
