Beautiful Vintage Swedish Marianne Richter Flat Weave Rug by Marta Maas Fjetterstrom, Country of origin: Scandinavia, Circa date: Vintage / Mid Century Modern – Diamonds and triangles in several hues and tints of red form this particularly artistic and captivating mid century modern design style rug. The facinating array of diamonds in the border contain a repeating darker set of triangle shapes nearest the edge of the center of this magnificent kilim rug. At the same time, the outer set of triangles are much lighter in color. The actual diamond shapes themselves in the border of this area rug from Scandinavia, are of a singular color. This goes a long way for highlighting the many different light and dark shades of the triangles framing them.

Within this vintage rug we have series of diamond shapes, chevrons, and more triangles. Many of the same colors from the borders are repeated here, as are the patterns of the colors used. However, the repetition is never dull, choosing to create somewhat different orders of colors and shapes throughout the chevrons. Additionally, you have alternating triangles of solid colors in light and dark shades and many other triangles tufted with smaller stitching of the colors present throughout the vintage Scandinavian area rug.

The artistic geometric patterning is intriguing. Everywhere you look on this rug there is something that catches the eye and causes you to pause for a second. Where the pattern appears to be straightforward, upon closer inspection it is not. The minute details throughout require a more studious eye and many hours of up-close inspection to be fully appreciated.

The weave itself is tight, smart, and sturdy. While you can see each woven stitch, you can also see the skill it took to masterfully keep it neat and small. The texture of the fibers is visible to the naked eye and invite you to touch it.

Of a medium size, Swedish rugs like this fit most spaces and add the perfect amount of color. The geometric details also create a focal point in the room, leading your eye in to the rest of the objects placed near it.

The facinating area rugs created by Marianne Richter, especially the artistic and timeless rugs she made for the famed Marta Maas Fjetterstrom, are truly some of the best and most artistic area rugs from the mid 20th century one could ever hope to find.
