Ingegerd Silow’s original design has an exceptionally cosmopolitan style in keeping with international trends that surfaced in the art deco era and remained influential throughout the mid-20th century. Familiar fretwork motifs masquerade as double ram’s horns, yet Silow takes the design to the next level by toying with the T-shaped negative space that appears within each C-shaped figure. These soft earth-tone fretwork motifs are expertly re-purposed in the restrained end pieces where the T-shaped background is boldly emphasized. The designer builds a formal, classically modern composition expertly by juxtaposing the repeating fretwork motifs against golden-yellow monochromes and decorative striped accents that define the lapped compartments effectively and elegantly.
