Antique Persian Sultanabad Rug, Persia, Late 19th Century – An elaborate trellis network of vines or Mina Khani in pale blue supports a lovely array of palmettes and flowers in shades of soft red, mauve, and tan, all set against a cool ivory ground. Similar forms comprise the border where they are reconfigured as a linear directional design and set against a soft red ground to contrast the ivory of the field. The grace and delicacy of the design are beautifully complemented by the softness of the coloration.
