The striking figures are separated by slim bars, which alternate between stripe-filled or solidly shaded. The blue squares are arranged in a checkerboard pattern of light and dark, cleverly dividing the paler dyes and contrasting them against textiles colored more deeply on the modern rug. A yellow background anchors the design, its hue buttery smooth against the variegated blues. Brick red stripes appear to run behind the pattern of the foreground, switching from two stripes to one and back again, setting off the cool hues with bold coloring.
