Large Vintage Cotton Indian Agra Rug, Origin: India, Circa: Mid-Twentieth Century – Here is a lovely vintage rug – a vintage cotton Agra rug that was woven in India during the middle years of the twentieth century. Possessed by a beautifully woven and complex allover pattern, this cotton Agra carpet boasts a simple pallet of white and blue, which contrasts with and elevates the richness of the detail work. The carpet begins with a rich series of borders, the proportions of which are relatively large, given the overall size of the piece. A very narrow border of undecorated blue serves as the outermost border in this Indian rug, though this is just about the only portion of the carpet that is not richly decorated. Next comes a border of white, which is woven with a lovely, repeating vine scroll and floral motif. Further in, the primary border is resplendent in blue with graceful, white floral details parading throughout. Another border of white follows, mirroring the outer border of white and effectively framing the primary border. A final narrow blue border studded with white diamond shapes appears, and the field unfolds, gorgeous and elaborate. Set against a background of white, a lovely allover floral pattern dominates that carpet. Precisely woven and elegant throughout, this pattern infuses the carpet with a sense of tradition, and speaks to its masterful composition.
