Antique Persian Kerman Carpet, Persia, circa 1900 – A classic Persian compartment pattern of gently scalloped ogival cartouches or medallions unfolds in allover symmetry on the field of this supremely elegant antique Kerman. Each compartment is filled with richly detailed palmette ornament in soft pastel colors, set alternately against a light and dark cream ground. Several smaller vine scroll borders frame the composition, nicely contrasting the grand scale and sweep of the field design, while preserving the same range of colors. The palette is exceptionally delicate, offering considerable decorative potential.
