Large Antique Persian Sultanabad Rug, Country Of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: Late 19th Century – This exquisite antique Persian rug is exceptional for the finesse and precision of its design. In place of the bolder scale and sweep usually encountered in such carpets, this antique Persian Sultanabad Rug example has a field design of interlacing arabesque vine scrolls arranged in a latent compartment format. The tiny flowers interspersed among the vines create a ‘millefiori’ effect across the soft Butterscotch ground. A finely worked vine scroll border set against a teal ground reverses the color effects of the field while preserving a uniform palette across the entire composition. The lustrous pile sets the lovely coloration off to great effect.
