Fine Antique Persian Kashan Rug, Persia, Late 19th Century – Woven in Kashan, this antique Persian rug features a classic quatrefoil medallion surrounded by elegant floral patterns that demand attention. Sinuous vine scrolls create a dense mesh that links a series of fan-like palmettes, poly chromatic saz leaves and small-scale floral motifs. Created in Kashan circa 1880, this elegant antique carpet features a subdued combination of gently oxidized brick red and Persian blue paired with ivory and Kohl black. Ornate spandrels with contrasting details decorate the corners of the field and extend down the edges of the borders. Crenelated fence outer borders and minute guard bands support the crimson secondary borders, which feature reciprocating floral patterns linked by bracketed vine scrolls. The obscure Kohl black field dramatically offsets the ornate floral patterns and elegant borders decorated with grand Shah Abbasi palmettes, detailed rosettes and flower-laden vine scrolls.
