Antique Kerman, Persia, circa 1900 – This stately antique Kerman boasts a centralized interlocking compartment design of classical Persian or Safavid derivation. Some of the compartments are distinguished by their ground color, while others retain the uniform golden tan ground of the field itself. A mesh of fine, undulating floral detail welters this way and that within the various compartments. A grand palmette and vine scroll main border retains the same coloration, scale, and design texture as the field, which gives the entire carpet a strong decorative unity. The lush pile of this piece enhances the lavish aspect of its design.
