Antique Persian Kerman Rug, Country of Origin: Central Persia, Circa Date: Late 19th Century – This absolutely astonishing, very large antique Oriental rug — an antique Kerman piece made in Central Persia some time toward the end of the nineteenth century — is an impressive piece that embodies many of the more extravagant qualities most sought after by collectors of antique Persian rugs. The surface of this opulent antique Kerman is graced by a dazzling array of fine floral detail reminiscent of the best Kashmir or Millefleurs embroidered shawls, but on an absolutely monumental scale. Only sparing touches of darker color serve to the distinguish the form of repeating large medallions within this sprawling richness. The fine scale of detail continues in the borders that frame and anchor the entire composition. This luxurious tug is an absolutely stupendous achievement and is regal and impressive today as it surely was when it was originally made.
