Large Size and Decorative Antique Persian Kerman Rug, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: Early 20th Century– Kerman rugs were first produced in the seventeenth century in the town of Kerman in south central Iran. The “vase carpet” is perhaps one pf the finest examples of Persian rug weaving. The Lavar type, especially, is known for its fine weave and elegant designs. Colors of these rugs vary from blues, ivory and magenta to a more golden pallet. Kerman was in an area largely undisturbed by wars and, as a result, the craft of weaving flourished. Antique Kerman rugs are distinguished by graceful curved lines and floral motifs. This is a large rug, measuring 12 feet by 16 feet, 4 inches, or 3.66 X 4.58 meters.
