Impressive Antique Persian Tabriz Haji Jalili Floral Medallion Rug, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: 1880
The field is a strong terracotta, carried at full strength from border to border. A large lobed medallion sits on it in soft celadon grey, drawn over with a fine flowering vine — thin rust stems, buds the size of a fingernail. The four corners answer it in cream foliage on a deeper red.
The layout is the classic Tabriz medallion arrangement — one centre, matching spandrels, a single wide border — and the drawing stays fine at this scale. Every stem and petal turns rather than steps. The border runs a floral vine on a pale sand ground, rust palmettes alternating with slate grey leaves, framed by narrow red guard stripes.
At 9 ft 6 in by 13 ft 6 in it belongs in the 10 x 14 size range — a carpet for a full dining table or a large living room rather than a seating group. For a room of another shape, the medallion layout is made to order as a custom rug.
