Antique Persian Khorassan Carpet, Origin / Rug Type: Persia, Circa Date: 1920’s – Here is a remarkable and masterfully woven antique rug – an antique Persian Khorassan carpet, woven in Persia during the second or third decade of the twentieth century. A study in contrast, this remarkable carpet features areas with intricate detail as well as areas that are wholly unadorned, lacking any sort of decoration. The borders are in the former category, sporting extraordinary detail work throughout. Elegant vine scrolls, floral elements and palmettes appear, all gracefully woven. Generally, the background is a deep blue, and the detail work is rendered in a pale orange gold hue. Massive corner pieces continue the detail work of the borders into the field of the carpet. Then, there is just negative space: the background of the field consists of a simple and undecorated hue of orange gold. The only thing that breaks it up is the remarkable and ornate central medallion, which ties in again with the borders and corner pieces. The scale of the medallion is enormous, and its presence is felt in every inch of this unique and beautifully woven antique carpet.
