This antique Sarouk Farahan woven during the late 19th century features closely spaced Herati motifs that form a dense allover pattern across the field.

Finely Woven Antique Intricate Persian Sarouk Farahan Rug, Persia, Late 19th Century – Tightly spaced Herati or Mahi motifs create a fantastic allover pattern that is offset by the obscure Kohl black field and ivory spandrels. Floral borders decorated with an angular vine scroll pattern, secondary guard bands, and red and white barber-pole borders enclose the field and complement the softly oxidized reds that dominate the allover pattern. This traditional carpet is decorated with an allover Herati pattern woven in a classic composition that continues through the ivory spandrels, which highlight the soft green vine scrolls and details hidden in the subtly colored Herati leaves. Woven during the late 19th century, this antique Sarouk Farahan features an exceptional interpretation of an important Persian pattern.
