Fine Antique Persian Sarouk Farahan Rug, Persia, Late 19th Century – A diamond medallion filled with a classic Persian Herati design floats within an ivory hexagonal field on this meticulously elegant antique Sarouk-Farahan. The field shape is defined by four cornerpieces that continue its pattern of staggered botehs or paisley forms, but echoing the rust coloration of the medallion. A complex border of rosettes surround ed by miniscule floral detail provides a rich frame on an even finer scale than the field itself. Here the weavers have taken the precision and delicacy of room-sized Sarouk-Farahans to a whole new level.
