Antique Persian Mohtashem Kashan Rug, Origin: Persia, Circa: Third Quarter of the 19th Century – This spectacular area rug creation from the legendary Persian Mohtashem Kashan atelier displays a fantastic quatrefoil medallion bound by inkpot blue spandrels and a saturated tomato red field. The superbly styled medallion is enclosed by delicate guard-bands with interwoven vine-scrolls and midnight-tone main borders that display the Mohtashem iconic blossom motifs. Diminutive strapwork bands and crenellated fence accents buttress the strongly colored borders while playing up the softer colors and pale neutral tones featured within the central arabesques.
Graceful branches and well-defined floral motifs unfurl across the regal tomato red ground while displaying oxidized hues of powder blue, orange and ivory that reflect their darker value counterparts. Delicate hairline accents define each decorative element and segmented blossom, creating a balanced, beautifully drawn pattern with harmonious colors and classical details. This antique Persian Mohtashem Kashan carpet is extremely fine, the wool is very high grade and is quite soft / silky to the touch. It is in very good condition and it could take daily traffic with no problem.
