Constructed on rectangular looms, circular and ovular antique carpets have traditionally been rarities to due the special techniques needed to produce these irregular shapes. Producing the scalloped edges and ogival curves used in this exquisite, lozenge-shaped rug would have required tremendous skill. Based around an elaborate central medallion, this extraordinary piece features a detailed guardband border filled with floral bouquets and Kufic rug design inscriptions.
