Vintage Persian Tabriz Rug, Persia, First Quarter of the 20th Century – Here is a stunning, beautifully woven antique rug – an antique Tabriz carpet, woven in Persia around the second decade 0f the twentieth century. Generally speaking antique Tabriz rugs and carpets are prized for their unmatched attention to detail, as well as their relatively strict adherence to the tenants of classical Persian rug design. This particular example is a wonderful manifestation of those tendencies, exhibiting as it does an impressive central medallion composition, intriguingly detailed with precise and sinuous vine scroll detail work. The elaborate borders boast extraordinarily intricate detail work of vegetal and vine scroll elements, beautifully colored in contrasting tones. Within the field, the large central medallion is joined by four corner pieces of red, each of which is also richly detailed. These vibrant accents embolden the medallion, the primary hues of which are softer. A beautifully composed carpet, this antique Persian Tabriz rug is an excellent example.
