Antique Persian Kashan Rug, Persia, Circa 1900 – This spectacular antique Persian rug from Kashan features an airy composition with loosely spaced bouquets rendered in an elegant combination of crimson, golden-yellow and several shades of jewel-tone blue. Ornamental vases, birds and candelabra motifs flanked by ornate botehs decorate the luminous and superbly colored field. Bird-flanked bouquets bisect each side of the directional field and form subtle spandrels that breach the boundary between the borders and field. Narrow guardbands and wide main borders decorated with cartouches featuring Kufic inscriptions provide a formal frame for the field while linking floral elements that transcend traditional boundaries. Woven circa 1900, this elegant antique rug from Kashan features outstanding colors, spectacular details, golden-yellow outlines and inventive floral elements that break traditional boundaries.
