Vintage Swedish Rya Rug, Origin: Sweden, Circa: Mid-20th Century – Here is an appealing vintage carpet – a vintage Swedish shag wool pile Rya rug, woven in Scandinavia during the middle years of the twentieth century. Currently enjoying an enormous surge in popularity, mid-century Scandinavian rugs such as this comely example are prized for their modern compositions. This particular Rya rug features a delightfully straightforward composition, characterized by especially vibrant shades of primary and secondary colors. The border is a bright red, with scattered stripes of gray contrasting with it and adding depth. Lines of serrated blue line the field along the vertical, while the horizontal borders are made up of bands of yellow lines. The field itself of this captivating Swedish rug is an iterating exercise in minimalism: consisting primarily of a large green space, it is also bounded on the top and the bottom by green of a slightly different hue. Straightforward and compelling at the same time, this vintage Scandinavian carpet is an excellent example of the dynamic nature of minimalist design.
