Vintage Geometric Khotan Rug, Circa Date: Vintage– Khotan rugs hail from the ancient city of Khotan, an important trade junction along the Silk Road that linked China and Persia. Because of this location, Khotan rugs blend design influences typical of both regions. In this rug, we see clearly the marriage of cultures. The circular and octagonal patterns repeated throughout the piece are typical of traditional Chinese design; indeed, some elements seem to mimic Chinese lettering. The Persian influence is reflected in the intricate, repeated patterns. The simple and warm red and hazel color scheme of this rug is breathtaking though the overall effect is rather subdued. This piece lends itself well to a wide range of interior design styles and trends.
