Superficially, the composition of this carpet seems to consist simply of a jumble of colors – there is no concrete structure to speak of. For instance, this carpet makes tremendous use of negative space. With the intriguing exception of a grouping of red horizontal stripes near the center of the composition, colors in this carpet behave in a certain way: when they are about to come into contact with one another, they give way to the ivory color of the carpet’s background.
