Antique Persian Malayer Runner Rug, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: 1920– A large diamond medallion nestles at the center of this lengthy antique Persian rug, resting against a blue-black field. The ivory and white figure is filled with a geometric decoration rendered with elaborate black stitching. Staggered rows of small white ornaments surrounds the central figure, their white forms clustered tightly around the middle. The feathery shapes create a pattern that repeats along the entirety of the rug, offsetting the darkness of the background. Four white triangles, one for each corner of this antique rug, contain trees and birds created with black linework, echoing the designs of the large medallion. A narrow border encloses the piece, trailing a dark vine.
