Antique Persian Heriz Serapi Rug, Origin: Persia, Circa: First Quarter of the Twentieth Century – Here is an intriguing antique Oriental rug – an antique Heriz Serapi carpet that was woven in Persia during the early decades of the twentieth century. Featuring a highly angular and geometric design, this antique Persian Serapi carpet embodies the best qualities of Persian tribal carpets. A primary border of red, richly decorated with angular vine scrolls, is sandwiched between a narrow inner and outer border, these being blue and decorated with red – effectively, the inverse of the primary border.
Everywhere in this antique Persian rug there are rectilinear vine scrolls and the tribal details that make Antique Persian Heriz carpets so exciting. The field, meanwhile, consists effectively of an outsized medallion in dark blue, surrounded at the corners by a dark shade of ivory. Rich details appear in both the ivory portions and throughout the dark blue of the oversized rug medallion, deeply reinforce the already profound sense of tribal verisimilitude that is expressed throughout the remainder of the composition.
