Antique East Turkestan Khotan Rug, Country of Origin: East Turkestan, Circa Date: Early 20th Century– This antique carpet is a gorgeous example of the Khotan style. The rectilinear repeated pattern in the field and the Chinese influenced motifs around the border make this a truly unique piece. The soft, muted sunset tones in this rug combine to form an almost rose gold color, while the details are set off by modest touches of brown. The tree of life motif is a common theme in Persian rugs and represents the direct path from Earth to the heavens. Depictions of pomegranates are also very common features and represent fertility.
