Beautiful Ying Yang Motif Antique Khotan Rug, Country of Origin / Rug Type: East Turkestan Rugs, Circa Date: Late 19th Century – A swirling yin-yang symbol forms the centerpiece of this antique rug from East Turkestan, its contrasting hues picked out in earthy shades of cream and brown. Stylized flowers and spreading leaves adorn the circular figure, with light-haloed blossoms serving as dots in the larger end of each spiral, picked out with fine, dark brown line-work. Blue bands across the creamy backdrop highlight pale floral decorations with curling leaves and round buds. Spaced evenly through the central area, a pair of circles flanks the yin-yang, accented with eye-like symbols and bold lines. Attractive figures with geometric designs accent the pallid space between the larger ornaments. Striking borders layer out, balancing light hues with brown and blue across the semblance of waves created with straight lines and distinct angles. A final edging of squared coils and slanting joins completes the classically styled antique Khotan rug.
