One diamond holds the centre, built in concentric layers — bright orange outside, then a thin ivory line, then a mauve core. It sits on coral, and the coral sits inside a wide band of squares that runs along the top, the bottom and both sides in orange, cream, brown and rose.
The arrangement inverts the usual order. Squares of this kind normally fill a whole field; here they have been pushed out to the margins and made to serve as a frame, leaving the middle clear for a single figure. The result is a geometric rug that behaves like a formal medallion carpet while using none of its vocabulary.
At 4 ft 1 in by 5 ft 8 in it falls among the 4 x 6 size rugs, with enough warm red to hold the middle of a room. Price is available on request, and the composition can be taken to a larger size as a custom rug.
