Beautiful Antique Chinese Ningxia Floral Allover Pattern Rug, Country of Origin: China, Circa Date: 1900
Ivory and golden cloud-scroll forms wander across the warm terracotta field, their curling outlines linked by delicate tonal vines and punctuated by five crisp floral heads. Although the pattern is fuller than the spacious compositions associated with many Chinese carpets, its narrow palette preserves a sense of calm and order. A turquoise-edged cloud border brings a cool flash of color, while the broad burnt-orange key-fret band and dark taupe outer frame give the design an architectural finish. Closely related motifs appear among our Chinese cloud band design rugs, and its copper, ochre and brown palette places it naturally alongside our brown earth tone rugs.
Much of the rug’s character comes from the contrast between the freely circulating field pattern and the increasingly disciplined succession of borders.
