Antique Indian Amritsar Rug, India, Early 20th Century – This exquisite antique Amritsar rug utilizes a unique architectural composition that includes fenestration compartments and textural repeating patterns. Decorative latticework grids, patterned pillars and ogival window frames encircle a variety of botanical chandeliers, ornamental sconces and serpentine cloud bands that adorn the formal compartments. The supportive pillars and surrounding ground incorporate a marvelous variety of intricate repeating patterns that counterbalance the monochromatic colors, which are featured in the window-like cells. The elaborate main borders depict a geometric counter change pattern with Moresque eight-pointed stars and geometric edge pieces. Outer borders decorated with notched rosettes, tonal palmettes and dainty floral motifs create a traditional frame that encloses the novel composition of this stately antique Indian rug from Amritsar.
