Gorgeous Vibrant Antique Persian Heriz Rug, Country of origin: Persian, Circa date: 1900
The field is brick red and crowded: a broad stepped medallion at the centre with a cream heart, pendants running off it top and bottom, and the corners packed with cream leaves and slate-grey vine. That grey is the one cool-looking note in the whole rug, and it is not truly cool — set against this much red it simply reads that way.
The border is the darkest thing here, a brown deep enough to pass for black, carrying cream rosettes and small red figures. Everything is geometric — medallion, leaves and blossoms alike are assembled from short straight runs, floral shapes drawn without a single curve.
At 9 ft 7 in by 13 ft 3 in it sits in the 10 x 14 size range, enough to carry a dining table with the chairs pulled clear of the edge. The medallion and palette can be reworked larger or smaller as a custom rug.
