Antique Khotan Oriental Rug, Early 20th Century – The pomegranate has traditionally been regarded as a symbol of abundance and bliss, which is revered by the people of East Turkestan and featured in many carpets from Khotan. Angular branches decorated with detailed buds and leaflets create a high-impact repeating pattern defined by its globular pomegranate fruits and gently arching branches. Decorative guard bands featuring a charming bi-color zigzag pattern complement the traditional floral borders, which are adorned with rosettes and an angular vine scroll pattern. This antique carpet woven in the early 20th century features classic patterns from Khotan woven in a chic color scheme with exceptional ivory outlines that highlight the intricate details of each fruit-laden branch.
