Oushak Rugs, Turkey, Late 19th Century – Softly colored and richly decorated, this marvelous antique Oushak carpet features an archetypal Turkish arabesque. Isolated motifs, floral emblems and cryptic symbols create a spectacular allover pattern that travels across the expansive field. The soft manila-yellow background provides a neutral canvas that highlights the individual botanical motifs beautifully. Dainty floral sprigs, radiant Tree of Life motifs, latch-hook accents and quincunx motifs that are paired with notched rosettes create a bold and distinctively Turkish allover arabesque. The warm peachy-orange borders are decorated with angular palmettes and formal botanical motifs that incorporate bright saffron yellows, bluish-tourmaline grays and all the tasteful accent colors that are featured in the guard bands and the beautifully decorated field.
