Antique Light Blue Colored Background Chinese Carpet, Origin: China, Circa: Turn of the 20th Century (around 1920) – Here is a beautiful antique Chinese rug from the turn of the twentieth century. Blues as bright and as beautiful as one can find in an antique carpet are the defining elements of this deceptively simple rug. A stark, unadorned border of a deep shade of blue frames the piece, giving context to and beautifully contrasting with the more cornflower shade of the field. Largely undecorated as well, the sumptuous patch of blue that is the field of this special antique carpet practically radiates a soothing energy, a quality very much in line with the aesthetic priorities of Chinese artisans, especially of the period. All of this simplicity and openness is subtly interrupted by a central, circular arrangement of traditional Chinese floral designs, all of which dance around a central, circular design of scrolls and more flowers. Dyed the same deep, royal blue of the border, these design elements both jump out from and define the field, creating a sense of harmony and unity throughout the piece.
