Italian Painted Canvas Textile Wall Tapestry, Country of Origin/ Rug Type:Italy, Circa Date: Eighteenth Century This elegant and highly unusual antique painted textile depicts a bucolic scene inspired by Greco-Roman green colored landscape painting. To the left, beneath a canopy suspended from a large tree, several elegant aristocrats take the shade, as friend arriving in the company of two peasants gestures to them in greeting at the center. To their right, a fountain emits cool streams of water. The coloration in pale green color, soft pinks, and pastel blues is extraordinarily soothing and delicate, nicely complimenting the pictorial illusion of natural beauty within deep, tranquil space.
