Antique Tibetan Rugs
Collection of Carpets from Tibet

Tibetan rugs are notable for their distinctive style and adherence to local traditions. Traditionally made from Tibetan highland sheep wool and with a different knotting method than used in other regions. Consisting of dyes found in the highlands, the colors are primarily blue, brown, grey, red and yellow. Motifs consist of geometric patterns and gau design. The most common design is the kanden, measuring 3×5 and used for sleeping and sitting. Meditation rugs are a popular form of Tibetan monks with 3,5,7 individual small squares woven together, forming one rug.
