Featuring animal designs throughout, this antique Indian carpet is possessed by both a classical sense of sophistication, as well as a tone of playfulness.

Vintage Indian Cotton Agra Rug, Origin: India, Circa: Mid-Twentieth Century – Here is a beautiful and unique vintage area rug – a vintage cotton Agra rug that was woven in India during the middle years of the twentieth century. Characterized by a delightful dichromatic pallet of blue and white, this intriguing vintage Indian Agra carpet is reminiscent of the rugs and carpets that were so popular in turn-of-the-century China. Featuring animal designs throughout, this antique Indian carpet is possessed by both a classical sense of sophistication, as well as a tone of playfulness.

The exceptionally elaborate series of inner and outer borders takes up a large portion of this blue and white composition, with elaborate and beautifully rendered leafy vegetal work occupying a place of special prominence. A motif of deer and lions dances through the borders as well. Within the field, a similar aesthetic ideal unfolds: here, complex vine scrolls unify the action, wherein more deer, lions and vegetal design elements jostle for prominence. A beautiful and unique work, this antique cotton Agra rug from India is an exciting example.
