His name belongs beside artists such as Pablo Picasso, Man Ray, Henri Matisse, and Marcel Duchamp. He produced works beginning in the 1920’s from his studio in Paris France. Like many surrealist artists, his style was a challenge to the traditional styles and the bourgeois society that produced them.

This beautiful vintage Scandinavian rug was produced from one of his paintings. Miro admired the work of impressionists of the time, and one can easily see this influence in the art rug. As with Picasso, Miro used a real object or form and then reduced it to is most basic and central elements, focusing more on the emotion that it invokes than the object itself. As with this piece, one can often see human eyes peering out from part of the picture. This was a common theme in his work.

The first thing that stands out in this striking vintage mid century rug from Scandinavia is the use of color. The colors are bold, vibrant, and daring. The strong black lines lend a child like quality to the this alluring Miro Art rug. The colors themselves are put on in layers that allow the background to show through. They tend to run together and do not stay within their confined area.

It is certainly a piece that makes bold statement and weather hung on the wall and used as a tapestry, or as an area rug, it is sure to add drama to the room. It is an intriguing, historically important work of textile art from a pioneer of modern art and design.
