Vintage Cotton Indian Agra Rug, Origin: India, Circa: Mid-Twentieth Century – This vintage Indian carpet is a fascinating example that combines modern and classic elements. A narrow and unadorned blue border runs along the outermost perimeter of the carpet, anticipating the complexity of the rest of the piece. Next, a pattern of white vines scrolls and floral elements appears, set beautifully against the blue. The primary border follows: this is very large in proportion to the rest of the carpet, and decorated with large, boisterous floral details. These are united with scattered vine scrolls and arranged in an appealing symmetrical fashion. A border similar to the outer border of white comes next, thus framing the primary border of white in a comely manner. The field follows on the heels of this elaborate series of borders, boasting a rich allover pattern of blue floral and vine scroll detail work set against a background of white. Lovely throughout and integrating modern concepts as well as classical design notions, this vintage Indian carpet is a charming example.
